Renowned historian David Head will present on Florida鈥檚 often-overlooked role in the War of Independence at the College of Central Florida Stearns Speaker Series on Monday, Oct. 19.

鈥淏ritain鈥檚 Loyal Colonies Lost: The American Revolution in Florida鈥 will be held from 12:30-1:30 p.m. at the Stearns Learning Resources Center on the Ocala Campus, 3001 S.W. College Road. This free event is open to community members.

Head鈥檚 lecture will examine the conflict and the role Florida played during the American Revolution. While 13 of Britain鈥檚 American colonies declared independence in 1776, East and West Florida remained loyal to King George III. The colonies soon became caught between American and Spanish forces as the war spread into the region.

Head is a senior lecturer of history at the University of Central Florida. A native of Western New York, he earned his Ph.D. in history from the University of Buffalo and has published five books, including 鈥淎 Crisis of Peace: George Washington, the Newburgh Conspiracy, and the Fate of the American Revolution,鈥 a finalist for the 2020 George Washington Book Prize.

His most recent book, 鈥淎 Republic of Scoundrels: The Schemers, Intriguers, and Adventurers Who Created a New American Nation,鈥 explores the people and intrigue surrounding the creation of the United States. Head also writes regularly for public audiences on topics ranging from the Golden Age of Piracy in Florida to George Washington鈥檚 love advice.

鈥淭he annual speaker series brings distinguished Americans to the 91制片 Ocala Campus, providing an opportunity for both the college community and citizens from Marion County and the surrounding areas to learn from and meet these individuals,鈥 said Cliff Stearns, who established the Friends of Cliff Stearns Endowed Chair through a gift to the 91制片 Foundation in December 2020. The series aims to bring national and regional speakers on history, political science and technology to 91制片 to benefit both students and the community.

Registration is encouraged at 91制片.edu/Stearns.

The College of Central Florida recently recognized members of its legislative delegation for their advocacy role resulting in $1 million in funding for critical workforce programs. The recognition took place during the Aug. 26 meeting of the 91制片 District Board of Trustees.

Sen. Stan McClain and Rep. Richard Gentry were present for a photo opportunity with college leadership and trustees, and they spoke in support of 91制片鈥檚 mission and vision. Their participation highlighted the important partnership between the college and state leaders who advocate for the educational, workforce and economic development needs of our community.

鈥淚 think we are very fortunate to have a great delegation that does such a fantastic job supporting us in Tallahassee,鈥 said Rusty Branson, 91制片 District Board of Trustees chair. 鈥淲e truly need their help and support and they have always been there for us.鈥

Expanding critical workforce programs was a top priority for 91制片 in the 25-26 legislative budget funding cycle. 91制片 is in the largest workforce program expansion in its history, and this extra funding allows the college to support the need for skilled workers in key industries.

The $1 million in funding is already being put to use hiring qualified faculty and staff for Nursing, Agribusiness, IT and other in-demand programs. 91制片 is also utilizing the funds to expand existing workforce programs and launch new degrees, such as the Associate in Science in Precision Agriculture, Associate in Science in Hospitality Management and Tourism, Bachelor of Science in Exceptional Student Education and College Credit Certificate in Geographic Information Systems.

鈥91制片 is grateful for the continued support of our legislative delegation and for their commitment to the communities we serve,鈥 said Dr. Jim Henningsen, 91制片 president. 鈥淭heir advocacy helps strengthen the college鈥檚 ability to provide accessible, high-quality educational opportunities and meet the evolving workforce needs of our region.鈥

The Financial Aid department has started the process of disbursing some funds to students, dependent on a variety of factors such as source of funding. Because aid is coming from multiple sources (like federal, state, and local grants or loans), aid is being released in separate, staggered batches rather than all at once, and there is still no definite timeline for full disbursement.

We appreciate your patience and will notify you via Patriots Mail when your funds are disbursed, including information regarding whether your aid package has been completely disbursed or is still pending other funding sources.

Please know that the 91制片 Patriot Fund application is available to any student having emergency financial need. It is located on the Help tab and the Student Accounts tab on the My91制片 Portal.

Summer B students eligible for financial aid can pick up their school supply kits at the Ocala Campus from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The temporary station will be located outside Building 36 on July 9, and inside Building 1, room 102 or 107, from July 13鈥16. All other students can either choose to wait until 91制片’s new bookstore, BibliU, opens on July 27 or purchase supplies from other retailers. Scantrons needed for exams will be provided by your instructor.

Billing

The College of Central Florida is working diligently to update the data in order to finalize billing as soon as possible.

Summer B students can expect their billing information to be updated within the next week. Please keep an eye on your Patriots Mail for the most up-to-date information. Fall semester students will be notified when billing has opened, and payment plans for this semester have been extended. Students now have until July 20 (extended from July 9) to secure the initial down payment option for their payment plans.

The College of Central Florida is working hard to integrate a newly installed student information software system. Despite our best efforts, financial aid disbursements have been delayed by a series of technical setbacks related to the integration of the new system.
What is the cause of the issues?
After launching 91制片’s new technology system, we have identified some inaccuracies in student records. In order to legally disburse financial aid, we must first correct and verify these student records, which are used to determine financial aid offers.
What is 91制片 doing about it?
We are addressing these technical issues with great urgency and are in the process of manually verifying all affected student records to ensure aid offers are correct before disbursement. Because of the complexity of the process, exact payment dates are not available at this time and estimated financial aid on student’s Financial Aid Dashboard may not be accurate. We are working to ensure all students receive the funds they are eligible for. We understand the impact this has on our students and have reallocated staff and contracted additional outside technical support to complete the distribution as soon as possible.

If students have an emergency financial need, they are encouraged to apply to the 91制片 Patriot Fund, which is located on the Help tab and the Student Accounts tab on the My91制片 Portal.

Please note that the information displayed on the Financial Aid Dashboard of the My91制片 Financial Aid tab may not be accurate at this time, but we are working diligently to update the data in order to disburse funds as soon as possible. Frequently Asked Questions

91制片 is working hard to integrate its new systems, but despite our best efforts some students are experiencing delays in their services. We are committed to supporting all students during this time. This FAQ is sectioned by department; please select the applicable area below:

Jump to: Admissions | Advising | Financial Aid | Registrar/Graduation | Student Accounts

Admissions

When will my application be processed?

Applications are being processed in the order in which they were received. Currently, there is a 2 week waiting period for processing. Once your application has been processed, you will receive an email with next steps.

Can I still schedule a campus tour?

Yes, join us at any of our campus locations for a tour! You can see available dates and times at www.91制片.edu/Tour.

Advising

Can I still meet with my adviser?

Yes, advising appointments are available. Please use your advisor鈥檚 Calendly link, located in Canvas, to schedule an appointment. You may also email your advisor directly. You can find your advisor’s email on the My91制片 Student Portal under the Academics tab.

Can I make changes to my academic pathway?

Yes. Schedule an appointment with your academic advisor to ensure the correct pathway is applied to your student record.

Financial Aid

Why is financial aid delayed?

We have identified some inaccuracies in student records and because of that we encountered multiple unexpected challenges with disbursing aid for the Summer 2026 term. The college has made significant progress resolving the implementation issues and has reassigned staff and contracted with expert software techs to get the issues resolved more quickly and accurately. Moving forward, we anticipate that the new system will streamline the student experience. We are actively working to resolve the issues with financial aid but do not have a clear timeline for full disbursement yet.

When will I be able to get my financial aid?

We have been working through transitioning to a new technology system and as a result, financial aid disbursements for the Summer 2026 term are following a different timeline than usual. If a student has aid from multiple funding sources, such as federal, state and local grants, scholarships or loans, it is possible that aid will be received in multiple deposits at different times.

Financial aid is expected to be disbursed to students registered only for Summer A or C term first, then to students registered for Summer B term. Financial Aid is expected to be disbursed in this order:

  1. Institutional grants and scholarships; 91制片 Foundation scholarships; State scholarships and grants, including Florida Bright Futures
  2. Loans
  3. Pell grants

Our top priority is ensuring that every student is granted the full amount of financial aid money they鈥檙e entitled to as quickly as we can.

How does the college receive financial aid funds to give to students?

The college does not receive any funds for grants or loans until the moment just before it is transferred to NelNet for disbursement. The amount the college receives depends on student eligibility and that eligibility is currently being handled manually until the new system inaccuracies are completely resolved.

It’s important to review and approve each student file before applying aid to ensure students are not under-awarded or over-awarded, which could result in having to pay back funds. This is an extremely rare occurrence and it is not expected to happen since we are taking care to check each student’s eligibility.

What other options are available to me as a student for financial assistance?

We recognize that this delay may place a burden on students relying on those funds and have developed a list of available financial resources, such as our Patriot Pantry and Patriot Fund, at 91制片.edu/FinanceHelp. You can also find resources on the My91制片 Student Portal under the Help tab.

If you will be late on July rent, you can request a letter from 91制片 to your landlord explaining the situation and requesting an extension on payment by emailing the Dean of Student Services department via viatork@cf.edu.

Will the delay in aid affect my enrollment?

Your class enrollment will not be affected and you will be able to register for classes without issue. Nobody with pending financial aid will be dropped from any 91制片 courses.

How can I get my books?

91制片 has switched bookstore vendors from Barnes & Nobles to BibliU. The new bookstore offers a streamlined, all-inclusive coursework service called My91制片 Books that provides easy access to all assigned digital materials on day one for eligible classes.

Students can find their eligible course materials by clicking on their class in Canvas and selecting the “My91制片 Books” link on the left-hand side. .

Registrar/Graduation

Can I register for Fall 2026 yet?

Yes. Fall registration is open. You can self-register on the My91制片 portal under the Enrollment tab or attend an upcoming Rapid Registration event.

When will I receive my requested transcript?

Transcript requests are being handled in the order they have arrived. Please be patient with us as we work through the backlog. You can check the status of your request on . If you have an urgent transcript need, please email transcripts@cf.edu.

When will I receive my diploma?

Official diplomas and certificates have been posted for delivery for graduates from the May 2026 commencement and can expect to receive their diplomas in the mail to the current address on file.

Student Accounts

How will I receive refunds?

91制片 is moving refund services from BankMobile to Nelnet. If you are eligible for a refund, you will need to set up an account in Nelnet and select a refund method. If you do not update your refund preference, your refund will be mailed as a paper check.

Visit 91制片.edu/StudentAccounts or the Student Accounts tab on the My91制片 Student Portal for instructions on setting up your Nelnet account. If you already have a Nelnet account, no further action is needed.

How do I know I’m eligible for a refund?

The College of Central Florida鈥檚 bookstore re-opened on July 27, under new management with BibliU. BibliU is open in the 91制片 Bookstore location in Building 36 on the Ocala Campus, 3001 S.W. College Road, 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 9 a.m.-2 p.m. on Fridays. 91制片 students and the community can shop for 91制片-branded merchandise and a limited range of physical textbooks.

Through this new partnership with BibliU, 91制片 students also have easy access to the new My91制片 Books program, which provides day-one access to all required digital textbooks and courseware directly in their online student portal. Through the flat-rate program, My91制片 Books, 91制片 students will have access to required course materials for one predictable cost, helping reduce uncertainty around textbook pricing and making it easier to be prepared for class. The digital-first model is designed to improve affordability, simplify access and support student success from the first day of the term.

鈥淭he College of Central Florida is excited to partner with BibliU to offer our students an improved bookstore experience to promote academic success with affordable and accessible textbook options,鈥 said Dr. Jim Henningsen, 91制片 president.

The My91制片 Books program piloted for students during the summer, with the full launch starting in the fall term, which begins Aug. 17.
