The 65th season of the Ira Holmes International Film Series at the College of Central Florida celebrates the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Throughout the season, several of the selected films and accompanying events will reflect the Declaration of Independence鈥檚 themes, such as the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
Beginning at 6:30 p.m., there will be a film talk with Patricia Tomlinson, Executive Director of Arts in Health Ocala Metro, followed by a screening of The Emigrants at 7 p.m.
All films will be shown Tuesdays at 2 p.m. at the Appleton Museum of Art, 4333 E. Silver Springs Blvd., Ocala, and at 7 p.m. at the College of Central Florida, 3001 S.W. College Road, Building 8, Room 110, unless otherwise noted. Films at the Ocala Campus are free and open to the public. Films at the Appleton are free to all museum and film series members; nonmembers pay museum admission. Films may contain mature content.
About the Film
鈥淭he Emigrants鈥(PG, Sweden, 1971, 2 hours, 31 minutes)
Presenting an epic historical drama about a 19th-century Swedish family who leave their impoverished home for Minnesota. It is an immigrant story of necessity, survival, and the search for a better life in the US.
Patricia Tomlinson is the Executive Director of Arts in Health Ocala Metro, a nonprofit that supports mental and physical health. She is the former Curator of Exhibitions at the Appleton Museum of Art, College of Central Florida, and joined the Appleton in 2016 after having served as curatorial staff at the Denver Art Museum for eight years. Tomlinson received degrees from the University of Colorado, Boulder, Colorado State University and the University of Denver. In addition to her degrees in art history and museum studies, Tomlinson has completed extensive coursework in film history and directed several experimental films.
